October changes Palma, but perhaps not as much as you might think.
Temperatures begin to drop, the streets return to a calmer pace and walking through the city centre becomes enjoyable without constantly thinking about the time. The harbour remains busy and, of course, the Mediterranean continues to shape what arrives at the fish market.
The way we eat changes too. After summer, dishes with a little more depth start to appeal again, along with oven-baked fish and rice dishes that feel particularly fitting at this time of year.
So, if you’re wondering what to eat in Palma in October, the answer may be closer to the sea than you think.
1. Autumn arrives at the fish market too
Being located next to Palma’s fish market means living with something we have known for many years: the sea does not offer the same produce all year round.
The catch changes, and the kitchen adapts.
At Ca n’Eduardo, this relationship has been part of our history since 1943. Fresh fish and seafood continue to play an essential role in our cuisine long after summer ends, prepared in a way that respects both the product and its natural flavour.
October does not mean saying goodbye to the Mediterranean. It means discovering it at a different time of year.
2. Some dishes are especially tempting in October
A rice dish overlooking Palma Harbour does not need 30-degree weather to make sense.
In fact, when the temperatures begin to cool, some dishes become even more appealing. Rice dishes, paellas and fresh fish are part of a Mediterranean cuisine that has little interest in trends and does not need to reinvent itself every season.
The season changes the produce and also what we feel like eating. And eventually, that finds its way onto the table.
3. Palma turns the volume down again
Perhaps this is one of the best reasons to eat out in Palma in autumn.
October offers the chance to rediscover a different side of the city. Stroll through the historic centre, pass by the Cathedral, walk down towards the harbour and sit down for a meal at a more relaxed pace.
At Ca n’Eduardo, we have spent more than 80 years watching Palma change from the same place. We welcome those who come to discover the city, but also those who live here and wait for these quieter months to return to some of their favourite plans.
Because when summer ends, good food certainly doesn’t.
And neither does the sea.
